Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Arizona, and then went on to complete specialty training in a combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency program at the University of Utah. He completed adult sub-specialty fellowship training in Infectious Diseases at Duke University, followed by a capstone fellowship in Clinical Pathology-Medical Microbiology at the University of Utah.
